Vehicle Replacement Programme 2.0
For over three decades, the ITF Seafarers’ Trust has remained one of the principle funders of programmes and projects associated with seafarers’ welfare in port. In that time, the Trust has awarded some 1,500 grants towards vehicles purchase and replacement, spending GBP 2.6 million in the process.
Introduced last year, the Vehicle Replacement Programme (VRP) not only maps the availability of vehicles to transport seafarers, but streamlines the process to replace vehicles, improve the quality of grant requests received and assists the Trust in proactively deciding, according to the information provided in the initial survey about existing vehicles, when and where a vehicle is most needed. The initial survey launched last year, in collaboration with NAMMA and ICMA, provided some pretty remarkable data. We have been able to create a list of 240 vehicles available for seafarers that we use to identify and replace vehicles where we think they are most needed and will be used more effectively.
In 2016 we spent GBP 487,960 to sponsor 20 vehicles, picked from the master list resulting from the initial survey. In total 17 vehicles were approved directly via the VRP during the 2 grant approval meetings (March & October). In response to emergency requests, 3 additional vehicles were awarded outside of the formal awarding period.
This year we need to relaunch the survey in order to have more up-to-date results. More importantly, the survey has been simplified. For example, if you have more than one vehicle, you simply need to complete one survey without having to input your personal detail more than once. Once you start the survey, you will be able to save it and complete later providing that you use the same computer and complete all the fields in a single page. We have attached a copy of the first two pages so you can see the question asked in advance. If you have more than one vehicle, you will be asked to repeat the process on the following pages until all vehicle data is provided.
Completion of the survey does not constitute an application to the ITF Seafarers’ Trust, nor does it guarantee funding for a future vehicle. Nevertheless, your cooperation in completing this survey will help the Trust to more effectively and equitably distribute its funds and will ultimately lead to the improvement of seafarers’ welfare worldwide. According to the information provided in the survey, The Trust will be then able to choose the vehicles that need to be replaced more urgently.
The deadline to take part in the survey is the 16th of January 2017. For any enquiry please email us at email@example.com
