International seafarers in Canada will benefit from a newly established National Seafarers’ Welfare Board which will promote access to shore-based facilities for visiting seafarers. As part of their responsibilities under the Maritime Labour Convention, the new forum will work to coordinate seafarer welfare in Canada.

As well as the new chairperson, Debbie Murray of the Association of Canadian Port Authorities, we are pleased to congratulate co-chairs Peter Lahay, ITF Coordinator for Canada and Dr Jason Zuidema, the Chair of NAMMA and ICMA, who have worked with the Trust on a variety of projects over recent years.
